Closed Cabin Turner LMP

For my degreework project i had to design the closed cabin version of this racecar, since at the moment only one, open version exists, which can be used for racing, but on the roads as well. So to improve the sales of the product it can be useful to have a closed version because this way it can be much popular among buyers with the more comfort and safety the cabin provides. For the closed cabin version the desogn of the bodywork of the open version was taken as a basis, because it has a good original design, which distinguishes the car from its competitors with the more-edgedstyle, and also because this way the manufacturing process can be simplified and the road-legal head- and taillamps kept. Along with keeping the original style the car has changed in many details: the front intake has been separated into three parts, and starting from the front center intake the middle part of the bodywork has been lifted up. This way this middle part is separated from the other parts, and also creates a comprehensive look along the car. Of course the cabin part is completely new, the biggest task was to place the engine intake somewhere, where it can breathe well. So it has been placed underneath the main rollhoop, and the air is chanelled to it from the roof-panel through a submerged duct. Together with this the rear intake scoop has been modified to channel the air into the air filter. The rear surface has also been changed to create a more comprehensive look, and also to house the new dual-channel diffuser on the back of the floorpanel. The diffuser is only one of the new aerodynamic devices: there is a rear wing for more downforce, and also there are adjustable front splitter and sideskirts for more racetrack-downforce. The mechanism and the opening of the doors has been designed as well: they open to the side and front to create the biggest possible opening for comfortable ingress, egress. Alltogether the closed cabin version is similar, but also different so it is a part of the brand while creating its own style and place in the market. |
